Our true thoughts here at North American Goalie Schools. Their are no two goalies the same and we are not made from a cookie cutter. We understand the importance of the position of being a goaltender. Everyone of us has an unique personality. We've learned to coach a goalie to be to their true style and try and better their style. You cannot change a goalie and the way that "they" play. We make small adjustments a little bit at a time to keep them comfortable and not feeling weird while moving around to engage into play and track the puck.

We just have to remember. We lived our career and that was at a different time and the game has changed since our great days of being a player. We can't coach them the way we played to our style. Once again, we are not made from a cookie cutter. Don't change them, perfect the way that they play and make small adjustments and keeping them comfortable while doing so. Help them understand by giving them the simple understanding of "WHY".

A Goalie Mother's
Poem

She walks thru the door and pushes it wide
His bag is so big there is no way to hide

Her heart starts to race, her hands get all sweaty
She looks at his face and sees that he is ready

She helps him get dressed, first the left then the right
It must be perfect or it will ruin his night

She wishes him luck and heads on her way
It’s time to prepare for the game he will play

She looks to the crowd for a smiling face
Wishing for once they could take her place

It doesn’t matter where she sits or stands
No one will understand her burden at hand

As they take the ice one by one
She watches them all await her son

He heads down the ice, she knows what he’ll do
He taps the post, first one then two

He scuffs his crease, he shovels the snow
He is getting his home ready to go

They ask her “How is he doing today”
Her response is simple, “Great, he is ready to play”

She tries to give him just one last wink
But he is crouched already and has begun to think

They have taken their positions, they are ready to go
The puck falls on the ice to begin the show

Back and forth, up and down
She looks around and they have begun to frown

As the goals go in first one, two then three
She lowers her head and looks down at her knee

She stands up and starts to head for the door
He glances at her and then up at the score

She stops dead in her tracks and starts to think
There is no way she will leave him alone in the rink

It’s not about her she pushes her feelings aside
She heads back to the bleachers for the rest of the ride

But then something happens the tide starts to change
They are shooting the puck, they are in perfect range

The game is tied up with only seconds left
She bows her head and holds her breath

The buzzer sounds the score is tied
This will be the worst part of her ride

The shooters are lined up to face her son
It’s him versus them one on one

Strange enough he loves this part
For her however it breaks her heart

She can see his face and his usual grin
As they approach the net he doesn’t let any in

The other team’s goalie has lost the race
She can see the sadness in his mother’s face

Her baby boy did it, she starts to grin
They all tackle him to celebrate the win

He says to her “mom did you see I did it”
She responds to him “I never doubted for a minute”

It is a good night they all love her son
But she knows it short lived until the next game is won

So if you see her sitting alone in the stands
Nodding her head and wringing her hands

Remember that she carries a burden like no other
She wears her badge proud…She’s THE GOALIE’S MOTHER!!!
